Refugee and Immigration Services

Is All About Service

Refugee and Immigration Services (RIS Va) exists to serve refugees, immigrants, volunteers, businesses, service providers, and the communities of Southern, Eastern and Western Virginia. With offices in Richmond, Roanoke and Hampton, Refugee and Immigration Services has resettled thousands of refugees from all over the world.

Newcomer Services

Newcomers to Virginian communities arrive with few possessions, determined to start over and create a normal life for their families. Refugee and Immigration Services (RIS of Va) exists to serve their basic needs, engaging volunteers who befriend and ease their transition into a new life. Respecting the dignity of those that they serve, Refugee and Immigration Services provides a broad range of support that helps new arrivals achieve a new life.

Community Services

Refugee and Immigration Services provides cultural orientation, assistance in helping immigrant families access community services, English language instruction, and family and children's services to all immigrants in need. Immigration staff help stabilize the legal status of families in transition. Our interpreter services ensure quality service delivery for a wide range of service providers. Refugee and Immigration Services' liaison staff engages schools and the community at large in working with the new immigrant population, providing cultural orientation and sharing strategies to build bridges of understanding.
